The Science Behind Candela Vbeam Laser


Vbeam is a pulsed dye laser set at 595 nm, a wavelength that is strongly taken up by oxyhaemoglobin in blood vessels. When the light energy is absorbed, the vessel heats up and is damaged in a controlled way so the body can gradually break it down and absorb it, which reduces visible redness over time.​


To make treatment more comfortable, the handpiece uses Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) technology that sprays a short burst of cooling mist on the skin before each pulse. This helps protect the surface, lowers the risk of side effects and lets the practitioner use effective settings while keeping the skin as comfortable as possible.​

Vbeam Perfecta works on the principle of selective photothermolysis, meaning the laser energy is aimed mainly at blood inside vessels rather than the surrounding tissue. As the treated vessels are gradually cleared away over the following weeks, and vascular marks usually fade, with many patients noticing a change within a week or two of treatment.​

PREPARATION AND AFTERCARE

To prepare for your VBeam Laser Treatment, please avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 2-4 weeks prior. Discontinue retinol and harsh active skincare products 3-5 days before and avoid blood-thinning medications to minimise bruising. Ensure that your skin is free from active skincare, cold sores, infections or open wounds. After your treatment, apply SPF 50+ daily, use gentle skincare and avoid hot showers steam and saunas for hours. If needed, cold compresses can help to reduce swelling. For the best results, follow all aftercare instructions provided by our medical team.

Is the Vbeam Laser Safe for All Skin Types?






Yes! The Vbeam Laser is FDA-approved and safe for most skin types, particularly fair to medium skin tones (Fitzpatrick I-III). While it is primarily designed to treat vascular conditions, it is gentle enough for sensitive skin. However, darker skin tones ( IV-VI) may require a consultation to assess suitability and avoid risks of pigmentation changes.




Does the Vbeam Laser Hurt?






Most patients describe the sensation as a mild snapping or tingling feeling, similar to a rubber band flick on the skin. Thanks to the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), which sprays a cooling mist before each laser pulse, discomfort is minimized. If you have sensitive skin, we can apply a  numbing cream before treatment for added comfort.




How Long Does a Vbeam Laser Session Take?






The treatment duration depends on the area being treated:


Small areas (broken capillaries, cherry angiomas) – minutes


Full face (rosacea, redness, acne scarring) – minutes


Larger areas (neck, chest, or body veins) – minutes




How Many Sessions Will I Need?






The number of sessions varies depending on the condition:


Mild redness or capillaries – 1-2 sessions


& persistent redness – 3-5 sessions


Post-inflammatory erythema (PIE) from acne – 1-3 sessions


Spider veins or port-wine stains – Multiple sessions


Each session is typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results.




What Are the Side Effects of Vbeam?






Vbeam is a low-risk, non-invasive treatment, but some mild side effects can occur, including:


Redness & swelling – Common and resolves within a few hours to a few days


Purpura (temporary bruising) – May occur in some cases, lasting 3-7 days


Mild skin sensitivity – Treated skin may feel slightly warm for a few hours


These effects are and indicate that the laser is effectively targeting blood vessels.




Can I Wear Makeup After Vbeam Treatment?






Yes! If there is no purpura (bruising), you can wear makeup the next day. However, we recommend using a gentle, non-irritating mineral makeup and avoiding harsh exfoliants or active ingredients (retinol, AHAs, BHAs) for at least 3-5 days post-treatment.




How Long Until I See Results?






Results vary depending on the condition treated. Many patients see  improvement, but full results appear gradually over 4-6 weeksas the body clears the treated blood vessels.


For rosacea and redness, multiple sessions provide cumulative benefits, reducing flare-ups and redness over time.




Can the Vbeam Laser Treat Active Acne?






Yes! Vbeam  acne-related redness and inflammation, making it an excellent treatment for:


Cystic acne (reduces swelling and redness)


Post-inflammatory erythema (PIE) (fades red marks)


Accelerating the healing process after breakouts


For severe acne, we often combine Vbeam with other treatments, such as LED light therapy, medical-grade skincare, and peels.




Can Vbeam Be Used on the Body?






Absolutely! While most Vbeam treatments are for facial redness, it is also effective for:


Neck & chest redness (sun damage, broken capillaries)


Leg veins & spider veins

Is There Any Downtime?






Vbeam is a minimal downtime treatment. Most people experience mild redness or swelling that subsides within a few hours to 48 hours. If purpura (bruising) occurs, it fades within 3-7 days.
